[Openal] raw file archive

Hello All,

just looking for a suggestion on how to store raw pcm files.
Actually, i am archiving them as a pure raw 8Khz 16bit PCM sample stream.

But then, it can  be played only from my application since it knows the 
format.
Is there a compatible file format to use easier than wav ? Or does it 
have a sense to save it as .wav ? If yes is there some alut tool to 
create the file ?
