[Openal] Artifacts - Alternating from left to right channels?

Hi Ashley,
Are you setting Listener position and orientation? One explanation would
be if the listener orientation was being updated with bad values causing AL
to think the listener is rapidly changing direction - which could cause all
the sounds to pan around rapidly.
Does the problem occur on other soundcards?
You could try commenting out certain AL calls to see if you find the one
that is causing the problem.

[Openal] Artifacts - Alternating
from left to right channels?
02/19/2009 01:09
PM
I'm not entirely sure how to describe it, but it sounds like the sound is
rapidly moving from one earphone to the other.
It only happens every so often, perhaps ever 5 seconds for around 2 secs.
I am not very experienced with OpenAL so its most likely that i'm not using
it in the correct way.
A bit of background: -
- I am using "Generic Software" as the device - Generic Hardware seems to
be
a LOT slower.
- I am using a Realtek HD integrated soundcard.
- I have a number of "Sound" objects which store the buffer (Aluint) and a
"Channel" object
- The channel object stores the source (Aluint) and allows you to play /
stop / set Volume and frequency and set the 3d position.
- I have a number of sounds representing a car engine / tyre squeal /
backfire and wind noise ( 11 in total )
- If the volume of any of these sounds are < 0.01 I stop them (I've only
tried this recently - the problem was there before i tried this)
- I update at 20Hz (it was previously 40Hz - with the same problem)
Is there anything else I could try?
Thanks for your help
All the best,
Ash
