What panning algorithm are you using now?  I know VBAP can be 
generalized to three dimensions pretty easily.

That's not a problem with these devices (they're pro devices).  Note 
they're not "cards", but external Firewire interfaces.  They're designed 
to be daisy-chained together with themselves or other compatible systems 
and still maintain sample-accurate timing.
