Hi Alex,
The X-Fi Xmod device is a simple driver-less USB Audio device that receives
a pre-mixed (multi-channel) audio stream from the PC. The Xmod hardware
includes hardware audio processing of X-Fi CMSS-3D and Crystalizer effects
for doing things like stereo up-mix to virtual surround and improving the
quality of compressed audio files such as MP3s. It does not contain any
hardware acceleration for 3D Audio or EAX.
To use the non-reverb Auxiliary Effect types such as Echo, Flanger, Autowah
etc .. you need a soundcard that does EAX 4.0 (or EAX 5.0) processing.
This means you need to have a hardware based Audigy card (such as Audigy 2
ZS, Audigy 4, etc ...) or a SoundBlaster X-Fi soundcard (such as X-Fi
XtremeGamer, X-Fi XtremeMusic, etc ...).

[Openal] Please Help : EFX, VC#,
X-FI X-MOD

Hi,
I'll try to keep this short...A while ago, I wanted to develop an app. in
VC# in which to use OpenAL & The EFX to the fullest, by the means of the
Tao
Framework.
I didn't even get past a simple Reverb, because my laptop's sound card
(Realtek HD Audio) wouldn't support anything else...
So I started scouring the forums for a solution. I've found that Audigy &
X-FI cards support the additional effects. I then got my hands on a
brand-new Creative X-FI X-MOD external sound card, very confident that it
would do the trick...
What I get now is this : I am told effects like ECHO, FLANGER, AUTOWAH are
NOT supported & on top of that, the audio playback is "quickened" although
AL_PITCH & AL_VELOCITY are @ their default values. (If I switch to my
on-board card, it plays normally again).
I am really puzzled as why this is happening. Can anyone please offer
guidance on the matter ? (I'd be happy to supply sample code, if it would
help)
Thank you,
Alex.
