I haven't hammered it throughly, but I think Apple's OpenAL
implementation does the right thing. (If it doesn't, I know their
OpenAL team is responsive to bug reports.)

I've created and used multiple contexts on a single device on OS X. It
can be handy when you have multiple views or windows displaying
different data.
