Vista is the problem. Microsoft are more concerned about imposing DRM
restrictions on audio than they are about allowing manufacturers to
implement multichannel audio support.

The problem is that Direct3D sound is now crippled. There is nothing
that can be done about this, other than perhaps for Realtek to
directly implement OpenAL in their drivers. At some point, Microsoft
will probably stamp on this as it would allow a DRM bypass.

Re-install XP and let Microsoft know you will not stand for this crap.
