The Realtek drivers do not include a native OpenAL implementation, and
because DirectSound3D Hardware support was removed in Windows Vista the
"Generic Hardware" device is not available. In this scenario, OpenAL falls
back to the stereo-only "Generic Software" device. The PlayMultiChannel
application is doing the right thing, and downmixing the 5.1 wavefile into
stereo so you don't lose any of the audio channels.

For multi-channel OpenAL support on Vista you need to have a card with a
native OpenAL implementation. See http://openal.org/openal_vista.html for
more details.

Hello,

I have a Realtek chip (ALC889A), and it isnt working with OpenAL games like
Red Orchestra (wich now exclusively use OpenAL).

When I use the PlayMultiChannel64/32.exe , the Rear Left/Right sounds are
played on the front speakers. Same problem ingame.

Do you know if there is a way to force OpenAL to use my Realtek as a
multichannel soundcard ?

PS : I use Vista x64 Ultimate Edition. Multichannel is configured in the
Realtek panel and the Windows Vista audio settings too.

Thanks,_______________________________________________
