i always suggest you to FIRST switch to "generic software" mode.
it might be that your - probably onboard soundcard - doesnt
work well with directsound3d. i had alot of problems with onboard
soundcards, but all problems dissapeared after switching to
openal software mode.

hmm - maybe his problem is that he has got "mono" sound? but right,
the problem should be more underlined.
