[Openal] multichannel help

Im sorry to have to ask so many questions which have probably alrady
been asked but there appears no way to search the message archives other
than manually which is crazy. I have a ac97 audio controller which has
multichannel however the multichannel does not show up on openal-info in
the contrib/examples folder. Does the multichannel ability only work on
creative hardware of is there something i have to setup on my linux
machine
