[Openal] alGenAuxiliaryEffectSlots, how many?

using alGenAuxiliaryEffectSlots in a loop, i can only get 1 effect slot, i 
have a creative xfi, and im thinking i should be able to get a few more at 
least!
im running vista x64

what should i be getting and why am i not getting more?
