[Openal] No devices on Ubuntu

How old is your OpenAL implementation?  Are you using a pre-packaged 
distribution or svn?  If you're implementation is old, I'd highly 
recommend trying the latest svn.

As for VMWare, I have no idea how that will interact with OpenAL.  I'd 
guess that the sound recorder test you ran would be valid, but I'm not sure.
