[Openal] Directional source acoustics

Hi,

I'm just now experimenting with directional sounds, and sound cones e.t.c.

I have a 3D scene with a simple cone representing a speaker, with a suitable
inner/outer cone angle set, turning the sound source does alter the gain
nicely when the direction of the source turns away from the listener.

For some reason I was expecting to hear at least a little panning as the
speakers direction becomes dominant on the -/+ X axis (i.e, when the speaker
points directly to my left, I was expecting less volume through my right
speakers), but there seems to be no panning. This is with & without any
reverb effect applied.

I don't know if this is even 'acoustically correct', so I played some audio
through one of my speakers and with my eyes shut I can indeed easily tell
which direction it's pointing when I pointed it left & right.

So, does AL account for this? If not, could it be added? Or is there
something I need to do to to make the effect more apparent?

Cheers
Tom
