There are many XP users who don't have that problem with the Software mixer.
Still, I have heard of some cases where your crackely sound really seems to be 
a problem.
I also had a couple of users who told me the sound output would be too quiet 
with no way to turn it louder, even when raising all bars in the main windows 
mixer settings.
