[Openal] OpenAL and Vista

Hi All,

I just read the OpenAL article regarding support on Vista.  My 
understanding is that since DSound would no longer be HW accelerated on 
Vista, that the GenericSW device (mixed by OpenAL and shunted through 
MMSYSTEM?) would have to suffice on all cards don't have native drivers.

However, the current SW mixer sounds, IMO, terrible.  It's "crackeley" 
and the pitch is weird... which is fine right now, since the GenericHW 
device is always avail for XP.

Presuming that the MS SW DSound implementation is better than the 
current SW mixer (one would hope that it sounds nearly identical to the 
current GenericHW device, but with a higher CPU hit), I was wondering if 
any thought has been given to a SW device that wraps the Vista DSOUND SW 
mixer?
