First, try opening the "Generic Software" device instead of the default 
or "Generic Hardware" device.  If that fixes the problem, then the issue 
is with the DS3D drivers for the audio card being used, in which case a 
driver update may fix the issue.  If switching the device doesn't fix 
the issue, then there's a deeper issue to look into...
