Among the emails I've received on the subject, the majority so far are
negative, so I appreciate the positive words here on the list.

I don't want to linger too long on something that may cause a flame-war,
but this "should anything closed-source ever be allowed" issue remains a
huge issue in the Linux community. The pragmatic approach taken so far
with the graphics vendors has paid-off fairly well for Linux, and I'm
crossing my fingers that Creative will be given the same leeway.

Absolutely. I think the timing is good -- Windows Vista will have
_some_ people looking at Linux for their next OS upgrade, and even a
small percentage of Microsoft's market would be a big win for Linux.
When it comes to Creative cards, I'm happy that next year there will
once again be some level of support for essentially all our cards, which
makes tech-support issues a lot easier for me.

You've got plenty of time to find a good deal! ;-)
