I'd say that's quite fine -- I usually go straight to the CVS versions
of libraries (how I wish libjpeg had CVS or some other open sign of
active development!) if I want to try them out, knowing that releases
can get pretty stale, most destructively at the API level.  I prefer
snapshots though, as a middle ground.

That is a good idea.  OpenAL does have a slow but steady
stream of fixes and improvements, at least steady enough to obsolete
the versions being distributed with (very few?) linux distributions
(which is a bugger when CVS OpenAL fixes egregious bugs in older
OpenAL versions; the in-distro versions then become not only obsolete
but an active liability).

I know that Creative has its own release schedule, but I'm going to
start putting up unofficial OpenAL CVS snapshots.  Uploading now,
more info to follow...
