This will be happening soon.  It sounds like I'm going to be meeting 
with Dan Peacock of Creative at GDC in a couple of weeks, and one of the 
things I'm going to want to talk about is how best to integrate 
OpenAL-Soft with the existing set of implementations in the SVN 
repository (I wish Chris wasn't so hung up on using GIT  ;-) ).  
Unfortunately, Chris can't make it to the meeting, so we'll have to 
compare notes afterward.

Another way to look at it is to consider OpenAL-Soft relating to OpenAL 
as Mesa3D relates to OpenGL.  If we go this way, we could just change 
the links on openal.org to point to Chris's site.

Either way, the best result is that Chris will continue to make regular 
releases, and the Linux distros will start picking it up.  I'm thinking 
this probably won't happen until you can go to openal.org and find 
OpenAL-Soft there.
