Good to meet you.  I'm Jason Daly, at the Institute for Simulation & 
Training, University of Central Florida.  Somehow I ended up as the only 
guy left with svn access and enough knowledge about the SI to commit stuff.

I don't want to call myself the maintainer, because I can't spare enough 
time to do justice to the title.  I'll commit patches that people send, 
though :-)

There's a really old demo program "xldemo" in the contrib area that does 
something like this.  Don't know if you've seen it, but just thought I'd 
mention it in case.

I use AL and GL at work all the time, so I can relate.
