Yes, it should work there, too. Could you send a log of what goes wrong plus 
the resulting config.log, please?

No, 0.0.0 is fine, the library versioning has no immediate connection with the 
spec version or the release number, see 
http://www.gnu.org/software/libtool/manual.html#Versioning for an 
explanation.
